- Downloading to
Hard Drive
- (MacIntosh Version)
-
If your Web Browser (such as, Netscape or MS Internet Explorer)
does not automatically decode the program, you may need a utility
program (free) such as "Stuffit Expander by Aladdin Systems"
To see if you do....
- Click on "File"
- Select "Find"
- Enter "Stuffit" (without
the quotes)
- Click on "Find"
- Check list to see if you have "Stuffit
Expander"
- If you don't, it is recommanded that you do.
-
- These Instructions are
for downloading the Decorative Painter Data Base
- Installer Program on
your Hard Drive
-
-
- Complete Program
-
If this is the First
Time you are downloading the Program,
Go to Step
4
If you have the Complete Program and
have not entered any data or DO NOT wish to keep the data you
have already entered into the data base, simply trash the Decorative
Painter DB Program folder (including all files) before you
download the newer version.
Go to Step
4
However, to transfer data you have entered
on the present version (the one that's on your Hard Drive now)
to the newer version, please follow the instructions below
before you download the newer version. If you don't, you
could lose all your data. Go to Step 1
Step 1
The 1st thing you're going to do is locate
the folder named Decorative Painter DB which should be located
on the Hard Drive.
- 2X click on Hard Drive
- Look for folder named Decorative Painter
DB
If you FIND the Decorative Painter DB
folder, go to Step 3. If you CAN'T
find the Decorative Painter DB folder,
go to Step 2
Step 2
This step will help you locate the Decorative
Painter DB folder.
- Click on "File"
- Select "Find"
- In the Name Box, type "Decorative Painter DB"
without the quotes ( " )
- Click on "Find"
- Write down where the folder is located
- Go to that location and MOVE the Decorative Painter DB
folder onto the Hard Drive
- Go to Step
3
Step 3
Before downloading a newer version of
the program.....
- Rename the Decorative
Painter DB folder to "Old DPDB"
- The purpose of this is so that you can easily identify the
old from the new program folder when you are ready to transfer
your data.
- Now, open the folder you just named
"Old DPDB"
- Locate the modules that you have entered
data into and rename them with the word "Old" in it
- such as, "Book" will be renamed as "OldBook",
etc. Module names are: Main, Book,
Maga, Arti, Stud, Clas, Proj, Pack, Sale, Cons, Pain, and Inve. You do not have to rename Modules that do not
have data in them.
Step 4
- The program you will be downloading is really an Installation
Program (named DPDB Installer) that
contains the Decorative Painter DB program and all the available
modules. The downloading process will place the DPDB
Installer on your Desk Top. Downloading the Installer
will take about 25 minutes. If you have @Home, it will take about
3 minutes. Those that use AOL to get on the internet may experience
longer downloading times and downloading problems (VBG....like
you didn't know this already). If you do, try using a different
connection (phone) # and/or download at a time when AOL usage
is low.
OK, let's start.......
- Go to the web site (http://www.simp-list.com/)
- Click on the Download button
- Select Click Here - to download MacIntosh Complete Program to
Hard Drive
- Fill out form and Select "Click Here to Download Program".
- Select "Click
Here" to start the downloading
process
This is a good place to take
a stretch break......You're almost there.
When downloading has completed, you should
see the "DPDB Installer" Icon on your Desk Top. To start the installation
process.......
- 2X click on the icon named DPDB Installer
and follow the instructions. The Installer will create a folder
named "Decorative Painter DB"
containing the program and modules.
When you get to the part about where the Installer should install
the program, it will want to install the program onto your Hard
Drive. Select "Install", unless you want to place it
somewhere else. The installation process will just take a few
minutes. If you want to keep the Installer program, you can place
it in the Decorative Painter DB folder after the installation
process.
So that you don't have to do a lot of
"clicking" to get to the DPDB program to start it, you
may want to create an Alias. If you're not sure what an Alias
is, consult your system manual. To create an Alias.......
- Open the Decorative Painter DB
folder
- Locate the Decorative Painter DB
icon
- 1X Click on the Icon to select
(highlite) it
- Click on "File"
- Select "Make Alias"
- Select "A" or "B" below
- A. Placing Alias on your Desk Top
- Click and Hold on the Alias Icon and
drag it to your Desk Top
- Release mouse button
B. Placing Alias under the Apple Icon
(upper left corner of your screen)
- 2X click on the Hard
Drive Icon to open it
- Locate and 2X click on the "System" folder
- Locate the "Apple
Menu Items" folder
- Click and Hold on the Alias Icon you
created
- Drag it over the "Apple Menu Items"
folder so that it's highlited
- Release mouse button
- Close all windows
That's it! Now go get yourself a well
deserved drink (you choose the type of liquid that suits you...LOL)
and enjoy the program.
To start the program, all you
have to do is 2X click on the Alias Icon if it's on your Desk
Top or select it from the Apple Menu.
Step 5
Importing Data into the
Newly Downloaded Modules.
After starting the new program, you will need to reenter your
module serial #. When you are at the Data
Entry Form, click on the "?"
icon located in the upper left part of the screen. Click on the
Import Data button and follow the
instructions for importing data. When you are ready to transfer
your data, go back to the Data Entry Form
and click on the Import button located
in the lower right portion of your screen.
One more thing. The descriptions "you" entered into
the Value (drop-down) List will need to be reentered. Since they
are your descriptions, there is no way for it to be transferred.
After you are satisfied that you have transferred ALL your
data successfully onto the newer version, you should trash the
old version which you have rename "Old DPDB".
If you experience any problems downloading, or if you found
these instructions hard to follow, please contact us. Thanks.
