*******************************************************

Step 5

Installing Program on Your Hard Drive (C-Drive)

Now you're ready to start the installation process. This is where the Installer Program places the Decorative Painter Data Base Program on your C-Drive in a folder named Decorative Painter DB.

You're almost there. It will only take a few minutes to install DPDB Program. Hang in there.... Take a deep breath.....here we go......

To Install the DPDB program on your C-Drive,

Note: Some computers have a light that glows when your A-Drive is being used. Make sure that this light is off before you remove your diskette. If not, wait about 15 seconds before removing the diskette when asked to insert the next disk.

Attention Windows XP Users:
After you have downloaded the Installer Program (SetupDx) onto your hard drive, do the following before Installing the program:
1. Right Click on the SetupDx (x = disk #)
2. Select "Properties"
3. Select "Compatibility Tab"
4. Click on box next to "run this program in Compatibility for"
5. Select "Windows 98/ME"
6. Click on "Apply"
7. Click on "OK"

Installing Program
  • Place Disk #1 into the A-Drive.
  • Select Start - Run: Type "A:\SetupDP1.exe"
or....2X click on My Computer; 2X click on the A-Drive icon; 2X click on the SetupDP1 icon
  • When Installation has completed, remove Disk #1, insert Disk #2

  • When Installation has completed, remove Disk #5

After installation, look for the Decorative Painter DB folder on your C-Drive. Open the Decorative Painter DB folder. In the Decorative Painter DB folder you should see the Decorative Painter DB icon. You will also see another icon named the "Shortcut to Decorative Painter DB" in the same folder.

  • Click right button on the Shortcut icon, hold and drag icon onto your desktop
  • Release button and select Move Here.
  • 2X Click on the Shortcut icon and program should start.

Now, if for some strange reason the program will not start from the Shortcut,

  • Trash the Shortcut
  • Go to the Decorative Painter DB folder
  • Right click the mouse button on the Decorative Painter DB
  • Select Create Shortcut
  • Move it to your desktop as described above.

That's it! Now go get yourself a well deserved drink (you choose the type of liquid that suits you...LOL) and enjoy the program.

To start the Decorative Painter DB Program, Double Click on the Shortcut

Step 6

Importing data into the newly Installed Program Modules

After starting the new program, you will need to reenter your module serial #. When you are at the Data Entry Form, click on the "?" icon located in the upper left part of the screen. Click on the Import Data button and follow the instructions for importing data. When you are ready to transfer your data, go back to the Data Entry Form and click on the Import button located in the lower right portion of your screen.

One more thing. The descriptions "you" entered into the Value (drop-down) List will need to be reentered. Since they are your descriptions, there is no way for it to be transferred.

When you are satisfied that you have transferred ALL your data successfully onto the newer version, you should trash the old version which you have rename "Old DPDB".

If you found these instructions hard to follow, please let us know. Thanks.
