Downloading to Hard Drive
Instructions
(Windows 95 or greater)
These Instructions are for downloading the Decorative Painter Data Base Installer Program on your Desktop

Complete Program

If you have the Complete Program (all 15 Modules) and have not entered any data or DO NOT wish to keep the data you have already entered into the data base, do one of the following: (1) Uninstall the program (Start\Programs\Decorative Painter DB\Uninstall) or (2) Locate the Decorative painter DB folder and place it into the recycle bin. Go to Step 4

However, to transfer data you have entered on the present version (the one that's on your Hard Drive now) to the newer version, please follow the instructions below before you download the newer version. If you don't, you could lose all your data. Go to Step 1

Step 1

The 1st thing you're going to do is locate the folder named Decorative Painter DB which should be located on the C-Drive.

  • 2X click on "My Computer"
  • 2X click on C-Drive
  • Look for folder named Decorative Painter DB

If you FIND the Decorative Painter DB folder, go to Step #3. If you CAN'T find the Decorative Painter DB folder, go to Step #2

Step 2

This step will help you locate the Decorative Painter DB folder

  • Click on "Start"
  • Select "Find"
  • Select "Files or Folders
  • In the Name Box, type "Decorative Painter DB" without the quotes ( " )
  • Click on "Find Now"
  • Write down where the folder is located
  • Go to that location and MOVE the Decorative Painter DB folder onto the C-Drive
  • Go to Step #3

Step 3

Before downloading a newer version of the program.....

  • Rename the Decorative Painter DB folder to "Old DPDB" - The purpose of this is so that you can easily identify the old from the new program folder when you are ready to transfer your data.
  • Now, open the folder you just named "Old DPDB"
  • Locate the modules that you have entered data into and rename them with the word "Old" in it - such as, "Book" will be renamed as "OldBook", etc. Module names are: Main, Book, Maga, Arti, Stud, Clas, Proj, Pack, Sale, Cons, Pain, and Inve. You do not have to rename Modules that do not have data in them.

Step 4

Now you're ready to download the Installer Program. Go to the web site (http://www.simp-list.com/),

  • Click on the Decorative Painter Data Base Link.
  • Click on the Download Link
  • Select Click here - to download PC Complete Program to Desktop
This is really an Installation Program (named SetupDP) that contains the DPDB program and all the available modules. The downloading process will place the SetupDP installer on your Desktop. Downloading the installer will take about 20 minutes. If you have DSL or @Home, it will take about 2 minutes.

OK....let's start.

To download the Decorative Painter DB Program, go to the download page and select "Download Complete Program".

(If you are using MS Internet Explorer you will see a dialog box asking you "What would you like to do with this file?". Select "Save it to disk" (Disk really means Hard Drive) and click OK. Netscape users will not see this dialog box.)

A Save as dialog box will appear. And....

  • Below the word Save as, it should say, Save in: Desktop
  • If not, click on the down arrow to the right of the box
  • Select Desktop

Now "Desktop" should be displayed in the Save in: box.

In the lower portion of the dialog box it will say File name: SetupDP

Below that, it will also say Save as type: All files (*.*)

Now you're ready to start the download process.

  • Click on the Save button located in the lower right portion of the dialog box.

This is a good place to take a stretch break......You're almost there.

When downloading has completed, look for the SetupDP installer on your Desktop.

Attention Windows XP Users:
After you have downloaded the Installer Program (SetupDP) onto your hard drive, do the following before Installing the program:
1. Right Click on the SetupDP
2. Select "Properties"
3. Select "Compatibility Tab"
4. Click on box next to "run this program in Compatibility for"
5. Select "Windows 98/ME"
6. Click on "Apply"
7. Click on "OK"

Installing Program
  • 2X click on the icon named SetupDP to start the program installation process. Continue with the installation until you're finished.
This will just take a few minutes. When the Installation process is done, the program will have been installed on your C-Drive and a Shortcut (Decorative Painter DB) to start the DPDB Program will be on your Desktop. To start the program, 2X Click on the Shortcut icon.

That's it! Now go get yourself a well deserved drink (you choose the type of liquid that suits you...LOL) and enjoy the program.

To start the Decorative Painter DB Program, Double Click on the Shortcut

Step 5

Importing data into the newly downloaded modules.

After starting the new program, you will need to reenter your module serial #. When you are at the Data Entry Form, click on the "?" icon located in the upper left part of the screen. Click on the Import Data button and follow the instructions for importing data. When you are ready to transfer your data, go back to the Data Entry Form and click on the Import button located in the lower right portion of your screen.

One more thing. The descriptions "you" entered into the Value (drop-down) List will need to be reentered. Since they are your descriptions, there is no way for it to be transferred.

After you are satisfied that you have transferred ALL your data successfully onto the newer version, you should trash the old version which you have rename "Old DPDB".

If you feel these instructions need to be adjusted, please let us know. Thanks.
